Dreaming about mosaics

I started learning about mosaics by taking classes with Coralie Turpin at Persistence Works in Sheffield, before becoming quite obsessed with mosaic art. I am now a happy member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic.

Before doing mosaics, I worked with ceramics and printmaking. I was introduced to printmaking by the fabulous Lyn Hodnett at the Cupola Gallery in Sheffield (run by the magnificent Karen Sherwood!). I did lots of printmaking classes with Lesley Warren at the Hangingwater studio. I have also been inspired by my aunt Monique Binswanger, who is an artist in the USA, and works with collage and monoprinting to develop abstract forms.

From researcher to mosaic dreamer.

I started my professional life as a biologist having studied for a PhD in Parasitology. I have spent many years working in research and Higher Education. Letting the door open for a creative life has been immensely joyous and rewarding. I am at the stage where I am still exploring my creative voice, playing with different materials, styles and mosaic methods. I am drawn to very textural mosaics using multiple types of stones and vast arrays of colours. There is such a diversity of materials to incorporate into mosaics that my head is buzzing with mosaics to come…
